The variety of hiking trails in the Forks Area is endless. The Appalachian Trail offers a variety of full day and half day hikes. Right in the backyard of The Hawk’s Nest Lodge is Mosquito Mountain, one of the only 360 degree views of Maine’s fabulous wilderness. From the summit, you can see both Sugarloaf Mountain and Mount Katahdin, Maine’s highest peaks.

If you want something a little easier, enjoy a nature hike to Maine’s highest waterfall, Moxie Falls.

Just up the road is Pleasant Pond Mountain, a half-day hike with spectacular views. The summit of Pleasant Pond Mountain is a great picnic destination. Many guests that stay with us rise early in the morning, hike to the summit and witness the sunrise from the top.
